Get Involved

There are many ways to help people find their way.

Be Part of the Journey

Poyan Initiative is built around people: newcomers, community members, volunteers, professionals, organizations and others who believe that people should have the opportunity to build their lives with knowledge, confidence, connection and dignity.

As PI develops, we want to build meaningful relationships with people and organizations that can contribute knowledge, experience, skills, time, ideas or resources.

Getting involved does not have to mean doing one particular thing. We welcome different forms of participation according to people’s interests, abilities and circumstances.

Ways to Get Involved

Volunteer

Share your time, skills and energy to support PI activities and initiatives.

Volunteers may contribute in areas such as community activities, language support, research, communications, events, administration or other areas where their skills are useful.

Share Your Skills

People bring valuable knowledge and professional experience that can help strengthen communities.

We welcome people who can contribute expertise, training, mentoring, technical skills, research or other forms of knowledge.

Community Participation

Newcomers themselves are an important part of PI’s work and development.

We welcome ideas, experiences, perspectives and feedback from people with direct experience of settlement and community life.

Partner With Us

Organizations, institutions, community groups and professionals can work with PI to connect people with services, knowledge and opportunities.

We are interested in partnerships that are practical, respectful and beneficial to the communities we serve.

Share an Idea

Sometimes the most valuable contribution is a good question, observation or idea.

If you see a gap, identify an unmet need or have an idea that could improve settlement support, we would like to hear from you.

Support Our Work

Financial contributions can help PI develop resources, activities and programs when funding is needed to deliver them effectively.

We aim to use resources responsibly and connect spending with clear purposes, activities and outcomes.

We Value Meaningful Participation

We do not want volunteering, partnership or community participation to become simply a way of filling positions or completing tasks.

We want people who become involved with PI to understand why the work matters, contribute their perspectives and feel that their contribution has meaning.

Where appropriate, PI will seek feedback from volunteers, partners and participants so that we can learn from their experience and improve how we work.

A Community Built on Contribution

Strong communities are built when people have opportunities not only to receive support, but also to contribute.

A newcomer may one day need information and support, and later become the person who shares knowledge, welcomes someone else or contributes a skill to the community.

We see this movement from receiving support toward participation and contribution as an important part of settlement.

Looking for a Specific Opportunity?

PI is developing its volunteer, partnership and community participation opportunities as the organization grows.

If you have a particular skill, idea, experience or opportunity you would like to discuss, please contact us.

Your Contribution Can Make a Difference

Whether you contribute an hour, a skill, an idea, a connection or financial support, meaningful participation can help create better opportunities for people finding their way in a new environment.
